10 Reasons Why Technology Is Ruining Our Lives

Cheryl Brite April 20th 2016 Technology
Technology is going to let you down. It's a fact. It’s only a matter of time before technology takes over the world, and you become obsolete - whether they take over our jobs, make us lazy or unhealthy, or gain intelligence to wipe out the human race. Don’t let this happen to you! Take control of your life. It's not too late to save yourselves! Here are 10 reasons why technology is ruining our lives.
1. More Sitting, Less Activity
TVs, computers, and smart phones will keep you on your butt forever if you let them. You need get up and realize it’s been a week since you’ve been outside much less hit the treadmill. This can't be a healthy way to live! So take your eyes off the technology and get a grip on the world of reality. Get some sunlight and fresh air. Your mind and body will thank you.
Watch your stomach grow before your very eyes as you sit face to face with technology day after day. Obesity has risen in America, and you don't want to be because of technology. You can develop hypertension, your blood pressure can increase, you can have a stroke, and kidney disease. Your body becomes more healthy and stronger when you exercise because the blood is circulating through your body. When you don't participate in physical activity, you're more susceptible to these serious medical conditions. Breaking away from technology and being active will save your life.
2. Lack of Human Contact
Sure social media pages can take the place of human connection but it can’t hug, kiss, or love you. It's a virtual world, and it's not real. You know it's not real, but you crave it. So what are you waiting for? Get out of the world of social media and start hugging random people on the street. Of course they’ll think you’re the weirdest person alive but at least their shouting is somewhat of a real life conversation.
When you substitute technology for human contact, you're playing a dangerous game. Depression sets in because you get into the mind frame that no one loves you. Becoming sick is another effect because you're losing weight, and your anxiety is through the roof because you crave contact and you're not getting what you need from other people. Social media sites can only distract you for so long until your body gives out. You need touch to make you feel good, needed, and wanted in life because your body releases all these good chemicals that make your body healthy. Now which would you rather have, technology or touch?
3. Decrease in Brain Cells
Technology makes you stupid. It’s true that you can learn what you want to know by watching TV but the majority of TV shows are useless garbage. You're literally losing brain cells while you sit in front of the TV screen. You can learn a lot more from just stepping outside your home and into the world. You should try it sometime. You might just learn something you can't get from your TV set.
How can losing brain cells be a bad thing? Well every part of your brain has brain cells, neurotransmitters, and other significant functions that allow your body to work. When you lose your brain cells in a certain part of the brain, you can lose the function to see, read, the control of your fingers, the ability to smile, etc. Not to mention you can never get the brain cells you used in front of the TV back. The body is connected, and you'll be doing it a huge favor if you tear yourself away from the TV and you use it in a more useful and productive way. The TV is not your friend no matter how much you wish it to be.
4. Unreliable
Technology breaks down, and that’s the reality of life. It's vulnerable to all sorts of things in life that are out of your control. It only takes one fall to the floor or one giant spill to shut down your phone and no matter how many companies come up with ways to improve upon these problems, you’re phone will die one way or the other. Just face it! Why don't you start using your mind for a change? It's probably the only reliable part of you that you'll ever have in your life.
When you feel like you can't rely on technology, you feel out of control. Frustration sets in because you've been so dependent on technology, that you don't know what to do without it. It's unpredictability makes you on edge when you're whole life is saved to your computer. There's no relief in sight because of your unhealthy obsession with technology, and you're relationships suffer. When a virus hits, you're useless and hysterical because you know you can't fix it. Technology can be so unforgiving.
5. It will take over our jobs
Someday you’ll be unemployed and realize you’re not as important as you thought. What a frightening situation? A computer can do so much more than you ever could. It has taken your job and sent you into a downward spiral that you’re afraid you’ll never come back from. The only thing you can do now is hope that someday life will get better. Who knows, maybe they're still be jobs out there that a computer can't do?
Depression sets in, and you realize you're obsolete. Your anxiety level rises because you realize you can no longer support your family. Suicide is a last resort because you feel useless and worthless as a human being. You have absolutely nothing to contribute to the world anymore. New technologies are created everyday to replace people's jobs and you won't realize you're job is gone until a robot has taken your place. Don't let this happen to you!
6. Hurt Feelings
Words hurt in the cyber world. Social media sites like Facebook and Twitter may be the new way to communicate with people, but new doesn't always mean it's good for you. There are too many people you don’t even know who can hurt you online. Teens have committed suicide because people wrote hurtful comments on their page. You can't escape technology. It seems like it's everywhere so shutdown your computer and realize your own self worth.
Depression, suicide, and death is how technology can hurt you. You can be cat fished online, and it can lead to more dangers then you are prepared for. Your money, cars, and other valuables can be taken away because you feel like this person online you've been talking to, cares about you. They need these things from you, and they'll say anything to take them away from you. Your finances, and your life will be turned upside down. When you share your personal life online, everyone can find out about those racy pictures you've put online, even potential employers.
7. Addictive Screens
Those bright and beautiful screens lure you into their world. There’s something about a computer, phone, and TV screen that keeps you coming back for more. It must be the high definition. The picture quality is so perfect and clear as day. Don't let its attractiveness control you! Whatever you do, don’t go towards the light and stay for hours on end, wasting your life away.
So why are these technological screens so addicting? When you complete a task on your smartphone for example, you feel a sense of accomplishment. Checking emails, playing games, facebooking friends and family, and working from home on your phone, makes you feel wanted and useful. When you complete a task, you feel a shot of dopamine as your limbic system craves more of this good feeling. As a result of this addictive screen, you're sleeping routine suffers. Your sleep quality lowers because the screen has become your life now, nothing else matters.
8. Dependency on Technology
You’ve become dependent on your Keurig coffee machine in the morning, microwave breakfast burritos, smart phone on your break, your computer at work, and you’re TV when you get home. There's nothing more important then your technology. You can't function properly without it. It's like a drug. You've become addicted and lets face it, you need help. It’s time to step back and go to a Technology Anonymous meeting and realize that technology does not control your life.
Addiction is a powerful thing. You may become so dependent on technology that you don't realize you're hurting the people around you. Depression, lack of sleep, and anxiety become a part of your life. All these factors will contribute to your downfall in the end. You're body will deteriorate because you will neglect what your body needs to be healthy and function in the world. You know how to work all the technology around you but well you know how to function in the outside world when technology is something you can't depend on?
9. People can access your life
Your online information is not safe from someone who is looking to use, abuse, and drag your identity through the mud. Your reputation could be severely tarnished in a way you can never come back from. Make sure you only make yourself look good in the cyber world. Employers who are interested in hiring you may go online to check you out and what they see could determine whether you get the job or not. Be careful what you reveal about yourself online, it could come back to bit you in the butt. This makes you wish you could go back to the days when social media sites never existed.
You're practically giving yourself away online these days. Knowledge is power. People can use that knowledge to take everything you have away from you. Your self worth, confidence, finances, and reputation can be taken away from you just like that. Depression sets in and a mistrust for technology develops, and you don't feel safe anymore. You can't trust anyone with your information. You fear it could happen again if you don't takes your social sites down, which is probably the best thing you can ever do when it comes to technology.
10. You have to replace it
Lets face it; it’s a huge hassle to replace technology with the newest most up to date version. It's hard to keep something you've had for a long time and just replace it with something new. The media keeps bombarding you with the newest and most innovative products, and you feel you must buy to keep up with the trends of technology. It's too much pressure! It’s not only a hassle, but it takes a huge amount of change out of your wallet that you can’t get back. That's got to hurt!
Frustration sets in when you realize you've accidently broken your phone, your TV stops working, and your appliances die on you. It's overwhelming when you have to replace these items. The financial burden can be staggering and stressful when you have bills, a mortgage, student loans, and other financial duties you need to attend to. When your computer decides it's going to die on you, your life is over. How can you afford a new computer? Nowadays they cost more than $1,000.00 and just knowing this is damaging to your health.
